La disfunción eréctil es
la incapacidad constante de lograr o mantener una erección del pene durante el tiempo suficiente
para tener relaciones sexuales satisfactorias
. Para lograr una erección, el cerebro, los nervios, las hormonas y los vasos
sanguíneos necesitan trabajar en conjunto,y si algo interfiere, se pueden producir problemas de erección.
Usted tiene disfunción eréctil si:
O
Logra tener una erección en ocasiones, pero no todas las veces que quiere tener relaciones sexuales.
O
Logra tener una erección que no dura lo suficiente para que la relación sexual sea satisfactoria
O
No logra tener erecciones en ningún momento.
Puede ocurrir a cualquier edad, pero es más común en hombres mayores de
65
años, aunque no sea una consecuencia
inevitable del envejecimiento.
Las
causas
pueden ser:

Psicológicas o emocionales
, más común en jóvenes. Los problemas de relación de pareja (mala comunicación, sentimiento
de duda o fracaso, estrés, miedo, ansiedad o ira, convertir el sexo en obligación y no en placer).
O
Condición médica
, más común en mayores. Patologías como arterioesclerosis, hipertensión arterial, colesterol alto, diabetes
mellitus, enfermedades crónicas del riñón o el hígado, lesiones cerebrales o de médula espinal, esclerosis múltiple,
enfermedad de Parkinson, etc.
O
Fármacos
. Antihipertensivos, antidepresivos, analgésicos opiáceos, etc.
O
Comportamientos
. Consumo de tabaco, alcohol, drogas ilegales, obesidad, inactividad física.
Puede conducir a:

Sentimiento de rechazo ante el sexo.
O
Tensión en la relación de pareja.
O
Vida sexual insatisfactoria.
O
No poder embarazar a su pareja.
O
Depresión, ansiedad, estrés y baja autoestima.
¿Cómo se diagnóstica y trata la disfunción eréctil?
El médico o médica diagnostica la disfunción eréctil con un historial médico y sexual y un examen físico y de salud mental.
Determinará qué tipo de pruebas son las apropiadas (exploración física, análisis de sangre/orina, ecografía) y los tratamientos
más eficaces, siempre prescritos con receta. Los efectos secundarios de estos fármacos incluyen: dolor de cabeza, piel
enrojecida, indigestión, mareos o visión distorsionada «azul» (sildenafil); generalmente, son de corta duración y se resuelven.
No obstante, pueden no ser apropiados si la presión arterial está alta o muy baja, los niveles de azúcar presentan un mal
control, existe un problema cardíaco grave, se toman de nitratos etc. Puede ser derivado al urólogo, quien le indicara otras
alternativas (medicamentos, dispositivos o cirugía).
